Photo Guidelines

Composition:

Photos should be taken from an angle that accentuates the roof and other architectural features you wish to showcase such as slate color, how the roof compliments the structure's architectural design, or other factors that demonstrate why slate was selected for the roof.

Check the image for undesirable elements, such as dumpsters, hanging wires, things that might detract from demonstrating the quality of slate. If your photo is good but not "perfect", send with comments. Often an image can be cropped or edited to minimize problems.

Public Buildings

It is OK to send images of any public buildings without a release.

Private Buildings

It is OK to send images of any private buildings without a release only if the building is not identifiable. Otherwise a release is required.

Getting and sending a release

Download an NSA Release Form. Print and fill in the information and have it signed by an authorized person. Then scan the form, save a pdf and send with the photo(s) using the uploader on this page. A single release can cover a group of photos of one building, and they must be listed on the release.

Photo Guidelines

Technical:

Your photos should be sent at a minimum of 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels tall. Typically they can be sent just as they came from your digital camera. This allows our webmaster flexibility in creating large and small views and the opportunity to crop the images if needed.

If you choose to edit your own images please do not sharpen
Do not enlarge your images (add resolution)
Send in .jpeg, .png or .tif formats

Non-digital photos We will scan them for you! You may send photos with a stamped, self-addressed return envelope. We will scan the image and return to you. Fill out the on-line form and indicate in the comment area that you are send photos for scanning. Mail photos to the National Slate Association, PO Box 172 Poultney, VT 05764.
